 Mirror Image - Story Synopsis

(Full length 2 hour musical of 2 acts and one 15 minute intermission)

In Fairytale land, the princes are charming and Step sisters are wicked.  But the Woodsman dreams of being more than an incidental character.  He wants to be a Hero.

When Cinderella’s step sisters find a magical portal to another world, everything changes.  The sisters get zapped into a very real modern day high school and the fairy tale world needs a hero to bring them back.  The Woodsman eagerly jumps at the chance, but reality is not what he expected and the step-sisters have no intention of returning to the fantasy realm.  Here the mean girls are popular and get the rule the school.

The Woodsman finds himself over his head and recruits the help of Danica, a hard-core realist who never believed in fairy tales.

Meanwhile, the fantasy world is collapsing.  Without the sisters to tell Cinderella she can’t go to the ball, there’s no fairy god mother, no coach, no slipper and the Prince doesn’t fall in love.  Without the Woodsman, Little Red is attacked by the wolf.

Can the Woodsman bring the sisters home, save two worlds, become the hero he longs to be and still find true love?  Or is it all just make believe?

Showdown will offer something special for those who sign up
before June 1, 2009

Showdown’s Teen Theater Academy offers teens a chance to experience a show from page to stage.

Mornings are devoted to classes.  Students can choose from Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Composing, Stage Movement, Dance, Musical Theater, Stage Craft and Technical Theater. They go to three one-hour classes a day, taught by professionals who actually make their living in the entertainment industry.

Supportive adult mentoring relationships nurture trust in authority figures.

First rate original productions build their self-confidence, sense of achievement, and a passion for reading, especially the classics.

Students get hands on experience in all aspects of theater.  They help design and build the sets. They help design and construct costumes.  They learn to hang lights and design a lighting scheme. They design and run the sound. They stage manage. They manage the front of the house.  Playwriting students have the option to write the shows for upcoming seasons.

After lunch it's into rehearsals of a full scale production that ends with performances before an audience.

Under the guidance of veteran composer Dennis Poore, students even get to write songs for the show.

High Quality performing arts classes geared toward teen issues give students a better understanding of who they are and why they matter, as well as help them discover their inner strengths and talents.

The camp emphasis is on original shows. This gives the students a chance to create something never before seen.  They get a chance to breathe life into new characters, to design a set that relies on nothing but imagination.

With these two new shows, Showdown will have five shows published with Francis Wilson Playhouse hosting their world premieres.

1)  Ghost of a Chance with Samuel French.
2)  Brothers Grimm Out Of Order with Pioneer.
3)  Nottingham with Pioneer.

And the two new shows, Best Of Both Worlds and Hard Boiled High.

Even more exciting, the publishers want to fly out from Colorado to see the productions.  They've never done that for anyone before so we are very flattered.

Why should you send your kids to
Showdown Acting Camps?

What Parents Say:

"Thank you so much for the instructors.  They made [our son's] experience all that we had hoped for.  They were able (as most great leaders are apt to do) to command the respect from the students and were able to draw the best from them. - Pat O.

"I honestly could never thank the teachers enough for the life changing education in the theater arts that they gave my children this summer.  Not only did they give them an excellent education in every aspect of
theater, they created a safe, fun and stimulating environment for the teens to be highly motivated and fully responsible for getting the most possible out of this experience." - Arnell B.

"Thank you for giving me back my child." - Lauren B.

"Not only has my son's attitude changed, his grades have greatly improved. I'm a true believer." Judy K.

"Can't imagine missing a summer camp anymore.  We now plan our family vacations around the showdown summer schedule."  - Pat M.

"What makes them so amazing is that they make you feel important and they show you your talents and your gifts."  - Brittany B.

"I honestly don't know where I'd be without this camp.  I'm not afraid to speak up anymore, speak my mind, be who I am or sing..... Thank you for helping me find myself."  - Jenny N.

"I have learned so much in the last few months.  You have each taught me so much about the world of theater, but also the world of life."  - Virginia P.

"You remember Jenny and me the first year.  We were a mess.  Look at us now.  You can't stop us."  - Marie H.

"You are the best director I have ever had. You listen, you care [..] I think you're awesome.  I can't wait until next summer."  - Brooke M.

"Thank you so much for showing me that acting is not about the script.  [...] I now understand who I am and what I am meant to be doing."  - Sapphire G.
